All schools will be reopened on 1st September 2025(Monday). As per the previous notification issued on May 20, 2025, all the schools of the province had to reopen on August 15, 2025.

Notification Highlights

The key points of the official notification issued by Khalid Nazir Wattoo (PAS), Secretary of the School Education Department, are as follows:

  • All public and private schools in Punjab will now remain closed till 31-08-2025.

  • The new school reopening date is 01-09-2025(Monday)

  • All Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance with this order.

  • The notification has been circulated to all concerned education officers and stakeholders across Punjab for immediate implementation.

Since this afternoon, news of the extension of summer vacations has been circulating across social media in Punjab. Initially, many teachers and users dismissed these rumours as baseless and fake. However, Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat soon confirmed the extension of summer holidays through his official Facebook ID. Shortly after, the Punjab School Education Department also issued an official notification.

Teachers’ Reactions to the Decision

Following this decision, mixed reactions have emerged from the educational community, especially among teachers. Some have welcomed the move, while others have criticized it.

Teachers Supporting the Decision:

Those teachers who support the decision argue that:

  • Due to the intense heat and humidity in August, it becomes difficult to conduct classes in schools.

  • Children are at risk of falling ill due to the extreme weather conditions.

  • The extension is a wise decision made with the health and safety of children in mind.

Teachers Criticizing the Decision:

On the other hand, teachers criticizing the decision state that:

  • Frequent extensions in vacations lead to academic loss.

  • Students of government schools are already academically behind, and more holidays are harmful to their progress.

  • The continuity of the academic session is disrupted, which negatively impacts student interest.

Is the Decision Justified?

One side of the debate highlights that in extreme weather, ensuring children’s safety should be the government’s top priority. However, it is also essential to maintain a balanced education system so that students’ futures are not compromised.

Conclusion

The decision to extend summer vacations in Punjab has certainly been made considering the severity of the weather. However, it is also important to address the educational gap that arises as a result. The government should arrange remedial or extra classes once the weather improves, to help students make up for the lost academic time and minimize the negative impact of the extended holidays.
