All Public and Private schools across Punjab province will reopen on August 24, 2026, after a long three-month summer break. In this regard, all preparations are underway in full swing. Instructions have been issued to all school staff and heads to complete all missing facilities before opening the schools. Today, the School Education Department has issued a very important notification about the new school timing in Punjab after summer vacation, officially issued by the Government of Punjab, School Education Department.
According to the notification dated August 21, 2026, public and private schools across Punjab will observe the new school schedule from August 24, 2026, to October 15, 2026.
The notification has been issued following approval from the competent authority and provides separate timings for single-shift schools, morning shifts, and evening shifts in double-shift or afternoon schools.
The new schedule is important for students, parents, teachers, and school administrations because it clearly defines the opening and closing hours for schools during the specified period.
New School Timing in Punjab 2026
Under the latest notification, all public and private schools across Punjab will remain open from Monday to Friday. The revised timings will apply from August 24, 2026, until October 15, 2026.
For single-shift schools, classes will begin at 8:00 AM from Monday to Thursday and continue until 1:30 PM. On Friday, schools will start at the same time but close earlier at 12:45 PM.
For schools operating in double shifts, separate schedules have been announced for the morning and evening shifts.

School Timing in Punjab for Single-Shift Schools
According to the notification, single-shift schools will follow an 8:00 AM opening time from Monday to Friday.
From Monday to Thursday, students will attend school from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. This gives schools a regular academic schedule during the four working days.
On Friday, the school will close at 12:45 PM. Therefore, parents and students should take note of the shorter Friday schedule when planning transportation and other activities.
School Timing for Double-Shift Schools
The notification also specifies separate timings for double-shift and afternoon schools.
The morning shift will operate from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, the morning shift will end at 12:00 noon.
The evening shift will begin at 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday and continue until 5:30 PM. On Friday, the evening shift will start at 2:00 PM and end at 5:30 PM.
These separate timings are designed to allow schools with two shifts to manage students and teaching activities within the available school facilities.
Effective Date of New School Timings
The New School Timing in Punjab will take effect from August 24, 2026.
The revised schedule will remain applicable until October 15, 2026, according to the School Education Department notification issued on August 21, 2026.
Students, parents, teachers, and school administrations should therefore follow the new timings from the effective date rather than relying on the previous summer schedule.
Special Note for Girls’ Schools
The notification also includes a provision concerning girls’ schools.
The concerned Chief Executive Officers (DEAs) may adjust the 15-minute gap in the opening and closing time of girls’ schools within their respective districts, depending on local convenience.
